We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Warehouse Assistant Manager to oversee the daily operations of our busy warehouse. Reporting directly to the Warehouse & Logistics Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating activities across the goods in, picking, packing, and flooring departments. Your primary goal will be to ensure efficient workflow, maintain high levels of accuracy, and foster a safe and productive working environment. You will play a crucial role in the customer journey, meeting our operational targets and ensuring timely delivery of goods. You will coordinate one designated area of the warehouse, while supporting, coaching and supervising the coordinators responsible for other areas.

Location: St Ives, Cambridgeshire

Hours: (08:00-17:30) 42.5 Mon - Friday

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 DOE

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Supervise and Lead Teams: Provide clear direction, guidance, and support to team members within the goods in, picking, packing, and flooring departments. This includes assigning tasks, monitoring performance, providing constructive feedback, delivering training and performing regular reviews.
  • Operational Efficiency: Oversee and optimize daily warehouse operations, ensuring smooth and efficient processes across all supervised departments. Identify and implement improvements to enhance productivity and reduce errors.
  • Goods In Management: Supervise the receipt, inspection, and accurate recording of incoming goods. Ensure proper storage and timely movement of materials to designated areas.
  • Picking and Packing Operations: Oversee the accurate and efficient picking of orders according to customer specifications. Ensure proper packing techniques are followed to prevent damage during transit.
  • Flooring Department Oversight: Manage the handling, storage, and preparation of flooring materials. Ensure efficient cutting and dispatch of flooring orders as required.
  • Inventory Control: Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records through regular checks and participation in stock takes. Identify and report any discrepancies.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all goods received, picked, and packed meet quality standards. Implement and monitor quality checks throughout the warehouse processes.
  • Health and Safety: Enforce all health and safety regulations and procedures within the warehouse. Promote a safety-conscious culture and address any potential hazards promptly.
  • Team Training and Development: Assist in the training of new warehouse staff and identify opportunities for ongoing development of the existing team.
  • Problem Solving: Address and resolve any operational issues or discrepancies that arise in a timely and effective manner.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with the Warehouse & Logistics Manager, other departments, and team members. Provide regular updates on operational performance.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for the supervised departments, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that all warehouse equipment is properly maintained and report any faults or maintenance needs promptly.

Person Specification

  • Education and Qualifications: Maths and English to a minimum of GCSE/T Levels or equivalent standard with C/4 grades or above. Previous Warehouse experience with strong understanding of warehouse operations, including goods in, picking, packing and dispatch processes. Supervisory experience. Manual Handling. Level 3 or higher diploma in Warehouse Operations (desirable). B1 Counterbalance forklift license (desirable). H&S Qualification (desirable). First Aid Certificate (desirable). Fire Warden (desirable). Working at Heights (desirable). Train the Trainer (desirable).
