Here at Optum, we are excited to share that we are currently recruiting for a Clinical Design Pharmacist to join our collaborative Clinical team on a fixed term contract , running until the end of the year .
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of our Pharmacy and Medicines product portfolio. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring our products are clinically safe by design and support the delivery of safe, effective digital healthcare solutions.
You’ll be joining a supportive and experienced clinical team, working closely with Product, Engineering, Clinical Safety, and PXD colleagues. Our Clinical team works remotely, with regular opportunities to meet face-to-face at one of our office sites.

What you’ll do
As a Clinical Design Pharmacist, you’ll be involved in the full product lifecycle—from ideation and design through to delivery, testing, and release. You’ll work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure that software requirements are clinically safe, effective and aligned with real-world pharmacy practice. You’ll also contribute to the creation of new features and user stories, ensuring EPICs are clearly defined and clinically safe.
You’ll oversee design work to ensure it reflects real-world pharmacy practice, provide clarification on clinical requirements, and ensure testing aligns with clinical expectations. You’ll participate in sprint reviews and product releases, that will also support enhancements driven by legislation or user feedback.
As a Clinical Design Pharmacist, you’ll collaborate with Clinical Safety Officers to support issue analysis, risk scoring, and hazard workshops. You’ll help ensure that risks are mitigated through design and workflow, or escalated appropriately when they cannot be resolved through product features.
Other key responsibilities and accountabilities will include;
- Collaborating with product and engineering teams to ensure software requirements are clinically appropriate and commercially viable.
- Support the implementation and design of functionality.
- Reviewing and clarifying design work to ensure it reflects pharmacy workflows and meets clinical safety standards.
- Advising internal teams and customers on clinical queries related to our Pharmacy software solutions.
Who You’ll Be
We’re looking for a qualified pharmacist with a strong understanding of clinical systems and a passion for digital healthcare. Your pharmacist expertise will help shape the design of new features, support compliance, and ensure that our systems meet the needs of both users and regulators.
You’ll be confident working across multidisciplinary teams and have a keen eye for detail when it comes to clinical safety and system design and supporting compliance and safety processes. Your ability to interpret complex clinical needs and translate them into practical, safe digital solutions will be key to your success in this role.
Professional skills we are looking for you to demonstrate include;
- Clinical qualification and registration with a governing body (GPhC), with solid experience in clinical healthcare.
- Previous experience working in a Pharmacy or NHS environment, with a good understanding of Community Pharmacy products.
- Ability to understand, assimilate, interpret and interact with customer ideas through an iterative process.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work with large volumes of data to high level of accuracy
