About the team
Our finance team plays a critical role in supporting Optum UK’s growth and long‑term success. Supported by our Group Financial Controller, you will provide robust, timely, accurate and insightful financial reporting that supports informed decision‑making, maintains strong governance and meets the requirements of internal and external stakeholders. This role is hybrid working; you will work predominantly from home and once a week in our Fulford Grange office (LS19 6BA).
About this role
As a Financial Reporting Manager, you will take ownership of our statutory audit and financial reporting, tax and lender compliance and technical accounting. You will be responsible for working with various finance and non‑finance stakeholders, leading the preparation of our consolidated and single‑entity statutory accounts under IFRS/FRS 101. You will act as the internal expert on technical accounting matters, including preparing acquisition accounting and assessing complex transactions. We will look to you to maintain a strong financial control environment, ensuring our financial foundations are robust as we scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the internal expert on technical accounting matters, ensuring the financials are compliant with IFRS, assessing complex transactions, preparing acquisition accounting and providing guidance to the wider team where required.
- Own lender compliance reporting, including detailed covenant calculations, compliance certificates and periodic reporting to lenders.
- Lead the end‑to‑end statutory audit process, acting as primary point of contact for external auditors and ensuring delivery to lender‑driven timelines.
- Develop and maintain robust models and processes to track financing agreements, approvals and ongoing compliance.
- Support VAT and Corporation Tax compliance in partnership with external advisers.
- Strengthen the financial control environment, by enhancing balance sheet governance, documentation standards and financial risk management practices.
Who you are
You are a highly detail‑driven and technically confident qualified accountant with the ability to navigate and interpret complex financial documentation. You will have previous experience managing external audits and leading the end‑to‑end audit process, gained within either a practice or an in‑house finance environment. You will enjoy hands‑on technical accounting, demonstrating your accuracy and are motivated by building robust reporting and control frameworks. Within this fast‑paced environment, your adaptability and accuracy will be key in supporting the organisation.
Key skills, experience and qualifications
- Qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA preferred) with post‑qualification experience.
- Strong experience preparing statutory financial statements, including working knowledge of consolidated group accounts.
- Leading or managing external statutory audits end‑to‑end.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS / FRS 101 within a complex environment.
- Good working knowledge of UK tax compliance requirements, with experience supporting Corporation Tax and VAT obligations and integrating tax considerations into financial reporting.
- Excellent attention to detail and confidence working through complex financial agreements and calculations.
