About the role
Optronix provides data centre operations and services to clients across the UK and beyond. We're looking for a Data Centre Operations Technician to help manage our DCIM environment and ticket queue. This is a fully remote position open to candidates in any location.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update DCIM records — assets, capacity, power, and connectivity data
- Manage the incident and service request queue: triage, track, and resolve tickets to SLA
- Identify recurring issues and escalate as needed
- Support asset moves, adds, and changes across client environments
- Keep documentation accurate and current
Requirements
- Experience with a DCIM platform (e.g. Sunbird, Nlyte, Device42, or similar)
- Experience with a ticketing/ITSM system (e.g. ServiceNow, Jira, Zendesk)
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Clear written English
- Able to work hours that overlap with UK business hours

- Networking
- CCNA (or CCNP / equivalent) certification
- Understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing/switching, and structured cabling
- Familiarity with fibre and copper standards (e.g. MPO/LC, Cat6/6A)
- Operating systems
- Linux administration (Ubuntu, Red Hat / RHEL, CentOS)
- Windows Server administration
- Command-line comfort and basic shell scripting (Bash / PowerShell)
- Cloud & virtualisation
- Microsoft Azure (AZ-900 or above), AWS, or GCP exposure
- VMware vSphere / ESXi, Hyper-V, or Proxmox
- Understanding of hybrid and colocation environments
- Automation & scripting
- Python or PowerShell for automation and reporting
- Familiarity with APIs for pulling/pushing DCIM and monitoring data
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible) a plus
- Monitoring & tooling
- Experience with monitoring platforms (Zabbix, PRTG, Nagios, SolarWinds, Grafana)
- SNMP and out-of-band management (IPMI, iDRAC, iLO)
- Data centre & facilities
- Understanding of power (PDU, UPS, redundancy/N+1), cooling, and rack layout
- Hands-on hardware experience: server/switch install, cabling, labelling
- Awareness of environmental monitoring and capacity planning
- Process & standards
- ITIL foundation or equivalent service-management knowledge
- Awareness of data centre standards (Uptime Institute Tiers, TIA-942)
- Exposure to security/compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2)
