We have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and passionate General Intern to join our inclusive team here at Optivet Referrals. Optivet is an independent practice providing first line 24/7 emergency care with expert emergency clinicians as well as providing a specialist referral service in Ophthalmology, Surgery, Internal Medicine and Anaesthesia. Our team focuses on all aspects of our patients’ wellbeing. Through knowledge-based growth and outstanding nursing care, our clinicians deliver effective treatment plans for our patients, keeping our clients informed throughout, founded on what we would want for our own pets.

About the role: We are delighted to provide an exciting opportunity for veterinary surgeons with some previous experience in general practice in the UK. The responsibilities of the interns are to support the veterinary and nursing teams in the care of all patients. The general intern will rotate through all referral service disciplines including Ophthalmology, Soft tissue surgery & Orthopaedics, Internal medicine and Anaesthesia. The interns are expected to contribute to the care of all in-patients, to help in consults, surgery and anaesthesia, and to provide support to our A&E service.

The Ophthalmology and Anaesthesia teams hold weekly Journal club meetings, which the interns are welcome to attend. The whole Optivet team holds weekly in-house CPD presentations, where the interns will be expected to present at least once during their internship.

The internship will have a duration of 12 months, with a possibility to be extended another 6 months based on performance. A competitive and attractive benefit package is offered. The interns will be expected to work an average of 42 hours per week, and to cover different shifts (days and nights). Holiday entitlement consists of 25 working days plus statutory bank holidays and your birthday. The CPD allowance is 5 days. There will be a 3-month probationary period, during which the internship may be terminated by either party with a one-week notice period.

Candidates must be MRCVS and have the right to work in the UK (UK or EU citizenship, or with valid UK working VISA for the duration of the internship). If English is not their first language, candidates must have the relevant qualification of spoken and written English to obtain a VISA and as per RCVS requirements.
