A skilled Electrical Estimator is required to join an established building services contractor operating across the South of England. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and compliant tenders for electrical installation projects ranging from £1m to £4m across commercial, residential, public-sector, and refurbishment environments.
This role is ideal for an estimator with strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively with design, operations, and procurement teams.
Location
Southampton office, with occasional travel to sites, suppliers, and client meetings across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate electrical estimates for projects valued between £1m and £4m.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to produce compliant bids.
- Carry out take-offs, measure quantities, and prepare bills of quantities or schedules of rates.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and evaluate proposals.
- Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternative solutions to improve competitiveness.
- Attend pre-tender meetings, site visits, and client briefings as required.
- Develop tender clarifications, risk registers, and supporting documentation.
- Work closely with internal design, commercial, and project delivery teams to ensure seamless handover of successful bids.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of industry standards, installation methods, and market pricing.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and tender quality.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator within the building services or M&E contracting sector.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, installation methods, and relevant regulations.
- Experience pricing medium-to-large projects (£1m-£4m).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Relevant electrical qualifications (e.g., apprenticeship, NVQ, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
