A leading building services contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to oversee a major healthcare project in Bournemouth. This role is ideal for a capable, organised, and delivery-focused professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and understands the unique demands of healthcare construction. While the position is initially freelance, there is a genuine opportunity to move into a permanent role for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical delivery of a healthcare project from pre-construction through to handover.
- Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure programme, quality, and cost targets are met.
- Oversee mechanical installation works including HVAC, medical gases, public health systems, and associated plant.
- Ensure full compliance with NEC contract requirements, including documentation, early warnings, and change management.
- Coordinate closely with clinical stakeholders, design teams, and other disciplines to maintain operational continuity and safety.
- Produce and maintain project documentation: RAMS, progress reports, commissioning plans, O&M information.
- Drive risk management, quality assurance, and health & safety standards across the project.
- Support commercial teams with valuations, variations, and forecasting.
- Attend site meetings, client briefings, and progress reviews.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven track record as a Mechanical Project Manager within building services.
- Healthcare project experience (NHS or private healthcare) with strong understanding of clinical environments and compliance requirements.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Ability to manage complex mechanical packages and multiple subcontractors.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services systems.
- Competent with project planning, reporting, and commercial awareness.
Desirable
- Chartered or working toward chartership (CIBSE, IMechE).
- Experience with commissioning management.
- Knowledge of HTMs and HBNs.
