Job Title: QHSE Manager Department: Quality, Health, Safety & Environment Reporting To: Technical Director Location: Willenhall Employment Type: Permanent Salary: £60,000 Role Purpose: The QHSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the company's Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, customer requirements, industry standards and company procedures. The QHSE Manager will provide leadership across quality assurance, health and safety, environmental management and continuous improvement. The role will work closely with production, engineering, purchasing, sales, warehouse and senior management to ensure that products consistently meet customer and specification requirements while maintaining a safe and environmentally responsible workplace. Key Responsibilities: Quality Management · Maintain and continuously improve the company's Quality Management System. · Ensure compliance with relevant standards, including ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001, customer-specific requirements and applicable industry standards. · Develop, maintain and control quality procedures, work instructions, inspection plans and associated documentation. · Ensure fasteners conform to relevant specifications, drawings, standards and customer requirements, including where applicable DIN, ISO, EN, ASTM, BS and customer-specific specifications. · Oversee incoming, in-process and final inspection activities. · Establish appropriate inspection and testing requirements for raw materials, components and finished products. · Monitor product quality throughout manufacturing processes including, where applicable, cold forming, heading, thread rolling, machining, heat treatment, plating/coating, sorting, packing and dispatch. · Manage non-conforming product, ensuring appropriate identification, segregation, investigation and disposition. · Lead root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions using appropriate problem-solving techniques. · Monitor customer complaints, returns, concessions and quality-related issues, ensuring timely investigation and resolution. · Establish and monitor quality KPIs and communicate performance to senior management. · Work with suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve supplier performance. · Support customer audits, supplier audits and third-party certification audits. · Ensure measuring and test equipment is appropriately controlled, calibrated and maintained. · Promote a culture of right-first-time manufacturing and continual improvement. Fastener & Product Compliance · Maintain knowledge of relevant fastener standards, specifications and product requirements. · Ensure material and product certification is correctly controlled and traceable. · Oversee the management of certificates of conformity, material certificates, inspection reports and other customer documentation. · Ensure appropriate batch, heat, lot and product traceability throughout the manufacturing and supply chain. · Support technical review of customer specifications, drawings and quality requirements. · Ensure appropriate controls are in place for special processes such as heat treatment, surface treatment and coating. · Manage product identification, labelling and packaging requirements. · Support investigations into dimensional, mechanical, metallurgical, coating and other product-related failures. · Liaise with external laboratories and specialist testing facilities where required. Health & Safety · Develop, implement and maintain the company's Health & Safety management system. · Ensure compliance with all applicable UK health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements. · Conduct and review risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work. · Identify hazards associated with manufacturing equipment, machinery, chemicals, oils, lubricants, heat treatment, surface treatment, manual handling, lifting equipment, noise and other workplace activities. · Lead workplace inspections and safety audits. · Investigate accidents, near misses and incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. · Monitor safety performance and establish appropriate improvement objectives. · Ensure employees receive appropriate health and safety training, induction and ongoing awareness. · Work with managers and supervisors to ensure safe working practices are consistently followed. · Ensure emergency procedures, fire safety arrangements and business continuity measures are maintained. · Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation. Environmental Management · Maintain and develop the company's Environmental Management System. · Ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation and permits. · Monitor and improve environmental performance, including waste, energy consumption, emissions, water usage and resource efficiency. · Manage waste segregation, storage and disposal arrangements. · Liaise with waste contractors and ensure appropriate documentation and compliance. · Identify opportunities to reduce waste, energy consumption and environmental impact. · Support environmental objectives and sustainability initiatives. · Monitor environmental incidents and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken. · Support compliance with ISO 14001 requirements. Auditing & Compliance · Develop and manage an internal audit programme covering QHSE processes. · Conduct internal audits across manufacturing, warehouse, purchasing and support functions. · Manage corrective and preventive actions arising from internal and external audits. · Prepare the organisation for certification, customer audits and on site inspections. · Ensure legal and regulatory compliance requirements are identified, monitored and reviewed. · Maintain appropriate records and evidence of compliance. · Report QHSE performance, risks and improvement opportunities to senior management. Continuous Improvement · Lead QHSE improvement projects throughout the business. · Promote Lean, 5S, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement principles. · Use data and KPI analysis to identify trends, recurring problems and improvement opportunities. · Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to reduce scrap, rework, customer complaints and process variation. · Support initiatives to improve productivity without compromising quality or safety. · Encourage employee involvement in quality, safety and environmental improvement activities. Authority & Accountability The QHSE Manager will have the authority to: · Stop or quarantine production where there is a significant quality or safety concern. · Place non-conforming products on hold pending investigation. · Escalate significant QHSE risks directly to senior management. · Require corrective actions where quality, safety or environmental requirements are not being met. · Recommend improvements to processes, procedures and working practices. · Challenge suppliers where quality or compliance requirements are not being met.
