Are you a skilled Mechanical Engineer with a passion for ensuring the smooth operation of critical systems? We’re looking for a dedicated and proactive FM Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospital. This is your opportunity to work in a vital healthcare environment where your expertise will make a direct impact on the safety and efficiency of essential services.

What Will You Be Doing?

As part of our team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and servicing a diverse range of mechanical equipment, including complex systems found in large industrial settings, such as dual-fired boilers and HVAC systems. Your work will directly support the hospital’s operations, helping to ensure a safe and reliable environment for both staff and patients.

In this role, you’ll perform fault-finding on critical systems like medical gas systems, pressure heating water systems (MTHW/LTHW), pressurised steam systems, and other essential equipment. You will use cause-and-effect analysis to diagnose issues, referencing detailed schematics and drawings. Additionally, you will conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM), inspections, commissioning, and testing, ensuring compliance with all procedures and safety guidelines. Marking up drawings and completing all necessary reports and certificates following testing will also be part of your responsibilities.

You’ll be responsible for safely operating a variety of specialized tools and equipment, ranging from welding gear to emergency generators and medical gas equipment. At the same time, you will strictly adhere to safety protocols, including risk assessments, infection control, and hazardous substance management, maintaining the highest standards of safety across the site.

What’s in it for You?

We offer a competitive salary and a range of benefits designed to enhance your work-life balance and support your well-being. These include 24 days of annual leave plus public holidays, life cover equivalent to 1.5 times your annual salary, and access to employee discount schemes with major brands and retailers. You’ll also receive discounts on gym memberships, and there’s a cycle-to-work scheme and a holiday purchase scheme available.

In addition, you’ll get two corporate social responsibility days per year to support causes that matter to you, along with a wide range of learning opportunities. These include professional qualifications, training, and personalized development programs to help you grow in your career. There is also an employee referral rewards program if you recommend top talent to the team.

You will have access to a growing employee network that includes groups representing various communities such as Accessability, Encompass (LGBTQ+), RISE (ethnic diversity), Women Together, Working Parents, and Young Professionals. Furthermore, we offer a 24/7 Employee Assistance Program and a mental well-being app to support you whenever you need it.

What We’re Looking For:

To succeed in this role, you’ll need an apprenticeship in Mechanical or Engineering (City & Guilds, SVQ3, or equivalent) and a proven track record of maintaining complex mechanical systems. The ability to pass a DS Basic check is essential for this role.
