Job Profile
The Service Manager will play a key role in overseeing service and maintenance operations, ensuring the efficient delivery of planned and reactive works while maintaining high standards of safety, technical compliance, and customer satisfaction. This role combines strong technical expertise with leadership, client management, and operational coordination.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical & Operational Management
- Provide remote and on-site technical support to service engineers, including fault-finding, diagnostics, and guidance on HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
- Prepare quotations for installation and remedial works, and oversee maintenance agreements and contract renewals.
- Supervise, schedule, and dispatch service engineers for planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and installations to ensure effective resource utilisation.
- Track, order, and manage system parts and specialist tools, ensuring availability and cost control.
- Manage service vehicles, including booking, supervision, and coordination with fleet providers where required.
- Client & Service Delivery
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, resolving issues, complaints, and escalations professionally and promptly.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, consistently delivering high levels of customer service and technical excellence.
- Monitor service performance and ensure works are completed in line with agreed SLAs and quality standards.
- Compliance, Health & Safety
- Ensure all works comply with health and safety requirements, including reviewing and monitoring RAMS.
- Maintain oversight of technical certifications and statutory compliance, including F-Gas regulations.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure best practice is followed at all times.
- Leadership & Coordination
- Provide day-to-day supervision and support to service engineers.
- Liaise closely with internal teams including operations, finance, and procurement to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Support continuous improvement of service processes, systems, and team performance.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Experience
- Minimum 5-10 years' hands-on experience installing, servicing, and maintaining:
- Split systems
- VRV / VRF systems
- Chillers and associated equipment
- Strong working knowledge of ventilation systems.
- Qualifications & Certifications
- F-Gas Category 1 Certification (essential).
- Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 / 3 or City & Guilds in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
- Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Proven experience coordinating service teams and managing workloads.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with clients and engineers.
- Good understanding of health and safety and regulatory compliance.
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Desirable
- Previous experience in a Service Manager or Senior Engineer role.
- Experience managing service contracts and maintenance agreements.
- Knowledge of fleet or asset management systems.
