The Opportunity We are currently recruiting for an
Electrical Critical Shift Engineer to join a market‑leading Facilities Management provider on a prestigious critical data centre contract based in
Grays, Essex .
This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically biased engineer with experience in critical environments or commercial building services to join a highly skilled engineering team.
You'll play a key role in maintaining the resilience, reliability, and performance of essential infrastructure within a mission‑critical facility where uptime is paramount.
With plenty of overtime available , this role offers excellent earning potential on top of the basic salary.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on critical electrical and building services systems.
- Ensure the continuous operation of all critical infrastructure, maintaining maximum uptime and reliability.
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on electrical systems and associated plant.
- Monitor and operate critical systems through the Building Management System (BMS).
- Complete permits to work, logbooks, and statutory compliance documentation.
- Support specialist subcontractors and supervise works carried out on site.
- Respond promptly to alarms, incidents, and emergency call‑outs, following critical environment procedures.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and client procedures.
- Participate in the continental shift rota, providing effective engineering cover across the site.
- Plant & Equipment
You’ll be responsible for maintaining a range of critical electrical infrastructure, including:
- LV electrical distribution systems
- UPS systems
- Standby generators
- Emergency lighting
- Lighting and small power
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- AHUs and FCUs
- Pumps and motors
- Fire alarm systems
- Power monitoring systems
- Critical cooling and associated plant
About You
Essential
- City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Strong electrical maintenance and fault‑finding experience.
- Experience within commercial building services, critical environments, or data centres.
- Good understanding of safe systems of work, permits to work, and statutory compliance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a shift engineering team.
Desirable
- Previous experience working within a critical environment or data centre.
- HV/LV Authorised Person or switching experience.
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).
- IOSH Working Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
