The Role
We are currently recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading Building Services Consultancy, delivering innovative electrical design solutions across a diverse range of projects throughout the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join an established consultancy with offices in Plymouth and Exeter, working on technically challenging Building Services projects across healthcare, commercial, residential, hospitality, leisure, manufacturing, research facilities, data centres and critical infrastructure.
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical design solutions from concept through to completion. Working as part of a multidisciplinary Building Services team, you will collaborate with Mechanical Engineers, Sustainability Consultants and other specialists to deliver technically excellent and sustainable engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Produce electrical design solutions from feasibility through to project completion.
- Design electrical Building Services systems including LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, small power and standby power systems.
- Prepare electrical calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Ensure all electrical design work complies with current regulations, British Standards and client specifications.
- Coordinate designs with Mechanical Engineers, Structural Engineers, Architects and external consultants.
- Attend client meetings, design reviews and project coordination meetings.
- Review contractor technical submissions and respond to design queries.
- Carry out site inspections and support testing and commissioning activities.
- Manage project deliverables to programme and budget.
- Support and mentor junior Electrical Design Engineers where appropriate.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Previous experience working as an Electrical Design Engineer within a Building Services Consultancy.
- Working towards or holding IEng or CEng status would be advantageous.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- LV distribution systems
- Lighting design
- Emergency lighting
- Earthing and lightning protection
- Standby and emergency power systems
- Experience producing electrical design calculations, drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Dialux, OM Electrical and Microsoft Office.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary Building Services projects.
- Strong communication skills with clients, contractors and internal design teams.
- Experience attending site inspections and supporting commissioning activities.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
