A UK Leading M&E Contractor is expanding its Swindon operation and is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to support the delivery of high‑specification cleanrooms, laboratories, and controlled‑environment facilities for some of the UK's most advanced scientific and technological organisations. The Basingstoke office plays a central role in supporting life sciences, pharmaceuticals, quantum technologies, semiconductors, and advanced manufacturing clients across the region. The successful candidate will join a highly skilled team delivering turnkey design, build, validation, and maintenance solutions for mission‑critical environments.

Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical project delivery across cleanrooms, laboratories, containment suites, and specialist manufacturing spaces.
  • Manage full lifecycle activities: design coordination, procurement, installation, commissioning, and validation support.
  • Ensure mechanical systems meet strict performance criteria including airflow, pressure regimes, temperature, humidity, and contamination control.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and proactively resolve technical issues.
  • Work closely with design engineers to ensure mechanical solutions meet regulatory, client, and performance specifications.
  • Support validation teams with documentation, testing readiness, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain rigorous quality‑control processes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans.
  • Oversee procurement of specialist equipment, materials, and subcontractor packages.
  • Manage variations, valuations, and final accounts with accuracy and transparency.
  • Lead mechanical engineers, specialist subcontractors, and site teams.
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, consultants, and internal project leads.
  • Represent at progress meetings, technical reviews, and client presentations.
Candidate ProfileEssential
  • Proven experience delivering mechanical building‑services projects, ideally within cleanrooms, laboratories, pharmaceuticals, or other regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, air handling, ductwork, chilled water, heating, and specialist mechanical systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client‑facing skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience managing budgets.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Experience in high‑tech or controlled‑environment sectors (life sciences, semiconductors, medical devices, quantum technologies).
  • Knowledge of validation processes and compliance frameworks.
  • HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.
