At Optimus, we deliver high-impact engineering solutions across the energy sector, supporting clients from early concept through to detailed design and execution. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to play a key role in delivering technically robust, high-quality projects. This is a full-time employee role, which can be based in our Aberdeen or Glasgow office on a flexible hybrid working model where 2 days per week can be worked remotely. An excellent salary + benefits package is available for the successful candidate.

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will lead the technical delivery of complex oil & gas and energy projects, ensuring successful execution from feasibility through FEED and detailed design. You’ll act as the key link between clients, contractors and internal teams, bringing structure, technical oversight, and leadership to every stage of the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and drive project execution strategies aligned with scope, schedule and budget.
  • Monitor progress, costs and performance for assigned projects to ensure successful delivery.
  • Producing Project Management deliverables for assigned projects as required (Progress reports, Execution Plans, Communication Plans, etc.)
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, vendors and third-parties.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships across all project stakeholders.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead and support Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Contribute to bids, tenders and business development activities.
  • Provide oversight to supporting functions for assigned projects (Procurement and Document Control) ensuring compliance with internal and client standards and requirements.

About You

Qualifications / Training

  • Degree qualified in an Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Subsea, or related).
  • Project Management certification (APM, PMP, PRINCE2) (preferred).
  • Membership of or working towards relevant professional body (preferred).

Experience / competence

  • Significant experience in project-based roles within oil & gas, energy or EPC/consultancy environments.
  • Proven experience across feasibility, concept, FEED & Detail Design stages (highly desirable).
  • Strong discipline engineering background (process, mechanical, E&I, Subsea, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of international design codes and standards.
  • Experience across offshore and/or onshore operations.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and safety systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
