About the role
As the Metering Operations Manager, you are responsible for leading and managing the operational delivery of Optimised’s metering services, managing survey and installation activities to ensure work is planned, coordinated and delivered effectively from initial assessment through to completion. Reporting to the Head of Energy Management, the role sits within the delivery function and is responsible for how metering work flows through the business on a day-to-day basis. This includes managing survey activity, coordinating installation delivery, and ensuring work progresses in a structured and efficient way across multiple projects and clients. The Metering Operations Manager provides leadership and direction to both project management and engineering roles within the team, ensuring resources are effectively structured, supported and aligned to deliver high-quality outcomes across multiple concurrent projects. Application of a practical understanding of metering systems, communication protocols (such as Modbus, M-Bus and BACnet) and their interaction with building systems will successfully support effective operational planning and delivery. The role also works alongside governance and administration teams to ensure that metering activities are completed in line with industry processes and internal standards, resulting in compliant, fully operational and data-ready metering systems. Acting as a key operational interface for strategic customers, you will help to align delivery approaches with client requirements and support the consistent and effective delivery of metering programmes.
Qualifications
- Strong experience within the sub‑metering, energy services or building services sector an advantage
- Electrically biased background, with relevant experience in electrical installations, metering or building systems
- Understanding of metering systems and communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, M‑Bus, BACnet)
- Experience or awareness of BEMS and their interaction with metering systems
- Good understanding of metering delivery, including survey, installation and commissioning
- Experience managing operational delivery within a field‑based or project‑led environment
- Ability to coordinate multiple workstreams, resources and delivery programmes effectively
- Experience managing or supporting operational teams, including survey or engineering resource
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage delivery pipelines and priorities
- Experience working with customers to align delivery with requirements and expectations
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Commercial awareness, with an understanding of cost, efficiency and delivery impact
- Proactive, accountable and delivery‑focused approach

Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operational delivery of metering activities, overseeing surveys and installations, prioritising work, aligning resources to demand and ensuring responsiveness to changing project and client needs.
- Provide structured oversight across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery stays on track by proactively identifying risks, bottlenecks and conflicts, and implementing corrective actions to maintain timelines and client requirements.
- Act as operational lead across the end-to-end metering lifecycle, overseeing survey and installation outputs to ensure accuracy and usability, applying practical knowledge of metering systems (including protocols such as Modbus, M‑Bus and BACnet) to support planning, decision‑making and workflow improvements.
- Maintain awareness of metering integration with wider building systems and data platforms, ensuring solutions support downstream data and operational requirements.
- Translate operational and technical requirements into practical, commercially viable delivery plans, driving continuous process improvements to enhance efficiency and consistency.
- Act as the project management lead, extending operational support to project management capability across delivery.
- Apply commercial awareness to assess the business impact of delivery decisions, supporting cost control, margin performance and operational efficiency.
- Serve as a senior operational contact for key clients, supporting delivery, managing escalations and ensuring consistent service across programmes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, acting as a key interface between clients and delivery teams while managing expectations throughout delivery.
- Collaborate with governance and administration teams to ensure metering activities comply with industry processes and internal standards, delivering fully operational and compliant systems.
- Monitor and report on operational and financial performance, providing clear updates on progress, risks and efficiency, and identifying opportunities to improve delivery and resource utilisation.
- Manage survey resources and coordinate shared engineering teams, ensuring capacity aligns with demand.
- Ensure all metering activities comply with health and safety policies, reinforcing safe working practices, setting expectations and intervening where standards are not met.
- Lead and develop project management and engineering teams, building a high‑performing function aligned to metering objectives.
- Ensure the team is effectively structured, resourced and developed to support current delivery and future growth.
