Aviation Recruitment experts Optime are searching for an experienced Baggage Handler/Ramp Agent to join a well-respected and successful client at Gatwick Airport. The job offers full-time hours and overtime opportunities.
What's on offer:
- Rate of pay: £14.70 per hour.
- Shift Pattern: 4 on 2 off
- Shifts: 2 Earlys, 2 Lates, 2 OFF - 9-hour shifts between the hours of 04:30AM and 23:00PM
- Hours per week: 40 hours per week.
- Weekly Pay (every Friday).
- Temp to Perm (performance based).
- Start dates: 20th April 2026
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Processing customers' luggage, ensuring they are loaded into the aircraft for departure and unloaded and transported to the airport on arrival.
- Ensuring the proper distribution of weight and balance.
- Working both airside and within the Undercroft (baggage unit).
- This is a manual role; candidates will need to be physically fit and able to repetitively lift and move luggage up to 30KG in weight.
- Adapting to adverse weather conditions, such as rain, snow, or extreme temperatures, to ensure the safety and efficiency of ground operations.
- Collaborating with other ramp agents, ground handling staff, and airline personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the airport and the timely turnaround of the aircraft.
- Full training will be given (5 days classroom-based training and shadowing).
- Full PPE will be provided.
Shifts:
The Airport is operational 7 days per week and candidates will be working on a 4 on 2 off rolling rota. This could be subject to change!
An example of the shift hours:
- Day 1: 04:30AM to 13:30PM
- Day 2: 04:30AM to 13:30PM
- Day 3: 14:00PM to 23:00PM
- Day 4: 14:00PM to 23:00PM
- OFF OFF
Requirements:
- A Full UK Manual Driving Licence is mandatory.
- Good attention to detail.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative, while being part of a team.
- Right to Work in the UK.
- Five year fully checkable reference history.
- Ability to pass Criminal Record Check (CRC).
