Optimas is seeking an energetic Cold Heading Tool Designer to support the Technical Department at our UK manufacturing site. The role involves tooling and product design to optimize department efficiency.
Main responsibilities:
- Create and update component process drawings
- Design tooling and gauges for efficient production
- Produce tool assembly bills of material
- Maintain accurate records in computer systems
- Collaborate with various departments to meet targets
- Research new production methods and tooling design
- Work with departments on tooling/technical matters
- Communicate with suppliers on specifications and improvements
- Participate in quality and production meetings
Skills and Qualifications:
- Eagerness to develop a career in tool design
- Experience in engineering, preferably in cold forging/fastener environment
- Ability to build relationships across business levels
- Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, SPC, FMEA standards
- Familiarity with wire/rod steel properties (preferred)
- Understanding of heat treatments and plating processes (beneficial)
- Technical drawing skills; tool design experience (desirable)
- Knowledge of cold forging/rolling capabilities
- CAD literacy (AutoCAD, Inventor)
- Ability to learn new systems quickly
- Ability to read engineering drawings to BS 8888
- Understanding of tool characteristics and performance in cold forging
