Location: Hinckley

Shift: Rotating (Monday - Thursday, 6:00am - 3:45pm & Monday - Thursday, 3:45pm - 1:30am)

The company: A well-established East Midlands engineering business with an enviable reputation for designing and manufacturing high-quality precision components for the aerospace industry. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Vertical Borer to join a growing and successful team.

The Vertical Borer role: We are looking for an experienced Vertical Borer to join our precision machining department. You will be responsible for setting and operating CNC vertical boring machines to manufacture components in line with customer specifications and production schedules. This role offers the opportunity to work on large, high-value aerospace components within a modern manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Set and operate CNC vertical boring machines, including Webster Bennett, Doosan and Hyundai machines.
  • Machine components ranging from 600mm to 1500mm diameter to customer specifications.
  • Set tooling, edit programmes and operate Fanuc and Siemens control systems.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and production documentation.
  • Inspect your own work using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, verniers and calipers.
  • Carry out basic machine maintenance (TPM) and ensure machinery is operating efficiently.
  • Raise production improvement reports (PIRs) where required and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping by working to 5S and following all health and safety procedures.
  • Safely handle components, fixtures and tooling throughout the machining process.

About you:

  • Apprentice trained or equivalent machining qualification.
  • Minimum five years' experience operating CNC vertical boring machines.
  • Experience with Fanuc and/or Siemens control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Confident inspecting your own work using precision measuring equipment.
  • Able to work independently using your own initiative while contributing effectively within a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality precision components.
  • Positive attitude towards health and safety and continuous improvement.
