The Role

Reporting to the Technical Director, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing and improving manufacturing processes to ensure products are produced safely, efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards. This is a hands-on role that will involve close collaboration with Quality, Jig & Tool design, Toolmakers, CNC Programming and Supply Chain teams to support both existing production and new customer projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving productivity, reducing waste, increasing machine utilisation and supporting the successful transfer and development of manufacturing operations within the new Coventry facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and improve manufacturing processes across CNC machining operations.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and production launch activities.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Conduct process capability studies and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyse production data to improve efficiency, quality and throughput.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Reduce cycle times, improve machine utilisation and minimise downtime.
  • Work closely with CNC Programmers and Tooling Engineers to optimise machining processes.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities relating to quality and production issues.
  • Assist with capacity planning and manufacturing resource requirements.
  • Participate in PFMEA, APQP and PPAP activities where required.
  • Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies, tooling and equipment.
  • Support health, safety and environmental compliance within manufacturing operations.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience within a Manufacturing Engineer position in a precision engineering or CNC machining environment.
  • Strong understanding of CNC milling and turning processes.
  • Experience improving manufacturing efficiency, productivity and quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience producing process documentation and manufacturing instructions.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience within automotive, rail, heavy vehicle, off-highway or precision engineering sectors.
  • Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA and control plans.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems and CNC programming.
  • Understanding of IATF16949 and ISO9001 quality standards.
  • Experience supporting facility transfers, business growth or manufacturing expansion projects.
