A precision engineering business is establishing a new manufacturing facility in Newport and is seeking a skilled Machinist to join as part of the initial team. This is an opportunity to contribute to the setup and development of a high-quality machining operation, working with precision components and supporting the implementation of robust manufacturing processes.

This role is primarily focused on CNC milling, with additional responsibilities across lapping, grinding, and precision finishing. The successful candidate will be expected to adopt a flexible approach, supporting multiple areas of the machining process as required. Full training will be provided to develop capability across these disciplines. This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your skill set while contributing to the setup and development of a high-quality machining operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate CNC milling machines in line with engineering drawings and specifications
  • Perform precision lapping and grinding operations to achieve required surface finishes and tolerances
  • Set up and operate surface grinders and finishing equipment
  • Select appropriate tooling, abrasives, fixtures, and machining parameters
  • Deburr, clean, and prepare components for further processing
Measurement & Quality Control
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
  • Use precision measurement tools (micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, CMM, surface testers)
  • Carry out in-process and final inspections
  • Record and document measurements in line with quality standards
Process & Continuous Improvement
  • Support the setup and optimisation of machining processes
  • Maintain machines, tooling, and work areas to a high standard
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and process stability
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams
  • Follow all health & safety procedures
About You:
  • Proven experience in CNC milling, lapping, or grinding
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, feeds and speeds
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Skilled in precision measurement and inspection techniques
  • High attention to detail and quality standards
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
