About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Milling Section Manager to lead their CNC milling department. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing a section of 22 CNC milling machines, driving productivity, maintaining exceptional quality standards and leading a skilled team. The successful candidate will also oversee the de-burring department, ensuring efficient workflow, high standards of workmanship and effective team management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of a 22-machine CNC milling section.
- Produce, modify and optimise CNC programs using offline programming software.
- Drive machine utilisation, efficiency and productivity across the department.
- Plan and coordinate workflow to ensure customer delivery dates are consistently achieved.
- Lead, motivate and develop the milling team, ensuring high standards of performance and accountability.
- Manage staffing levels and allocate work effectively across the department.
- Maintain excellent standards of housekeeping, cleanliness and organisation.
- Oversee the de-burring department, managing workflow, priorities and personnel.
- Work closely with Planning, Quality and Production Management to maximise output.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all Health & Safety procedures are followed.
Essential Requirements
- Extensive experience programming and machining 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC milling machines.
- Strong offline CNC programming experience.
- Proven experience managing a CNC milling section or manufacturing team.
- Excellent understanding of machining strategies, tooling and cutting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent organisational and planning ability.
- Experience working to tight tolerances and high-quality manufacturing standards.
- A proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement and efficiency.
Preferred Experience
- Experience using OneCNC and/or Autodesk Fusion 360 for offline programming.
- Aerospace precision engineering experience.
- Lean Manufacturing and 5S knowledge.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
