The Opportunity
We're recruiting for an experienced Laser Cutting Supervisor to join a growing precision engineering manufacturer in Nottingham. This is a hands-on supervisory role where you'll take responsibility for leading the laser cutting department, ensuring production targets are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency. You'll work closely with production, quality and planning teams, supporting the day-to-day running of the department while developing and motivating your team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supervising the daily operation of the laser cutting department.
- Leading, motivating and supporting a team of Laser Operators.
- Planning workloads to ensure production deadlines are achieved.
- Setting and operating laser cutting machinery when required.
- Carrying out first-off inspections and ensuring components meet customer specifications.
- Monitoring quality throughout production and resolving any manufacturing issues.
- Reducing downtime by identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Working alongside Production Planning, Programming, Quality and Operations teams.
- Training, coaching and developing team members.
- Conducting probation reviews, return-to-work meetings and day-to-day people management.
- Ensuring high standards of housekeeping across the department.
- Promoting a positive health and safety culture.
- Reporting equipment faults and liaising with the maintenance team.
- Supporting continuous improvement projects to increase productivity.
- Assisting with recruitment and onboarding of new employees when required.
What We're Looking For
- Previous supervisory or team leader experience within a laser cutting or sheet metal manufacturing environment.
- Extensive hands-on experience operating industrial laser cutting machinery.
- A strong understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication.
- Experience managing workloads and achieving production targets.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive approach with the ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.
