The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced General Machinist to join a skilled workshop team within a precision engineering environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing precision components, tools, jigs and fixtures using a range of manual machine tools, with additional CNC exposure where applicable. The role requires a high standard of workmanship, strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to quality, safety and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and operating manual machine tools including lathes, milling machines, surface grinders and drilling machines
  • Manufacturing precision components, tooling, jigs, fixtures and small batch parts to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Working to tight tolerances and ensuring all finished components meet quality standards
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, job sheets and process instructions
  • Selecting appropriate materials, tooling, speeds and feeds for machining operations
  • Using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, dial indicators and height gauges
  • Carrying out basic machine maintenance and ensuring equipment is safe and operational
  • Supporting continuous improvement and problem-solving activities within the workshop
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
  • Working closely with engineering and production teams to meet deadlines and targets

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience as a General Machinist within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment. You will also have:

  • Strong manual machining experience in a workshop environment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings confidently
  • Good understanding of machining techniques, materials and tolerances
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
