Health & Safety Manager in Portsmouth

Health & Safety Manager Portsmouth | £50,000 - £60,000 We're working with an established engineering business in Portsmouth that is looking to appoint a Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of health and safety across the business. This is a hands-on role where you'll work closely with operational and engineering teams to maintain high standards, improve processes and ensure the business remains compliant with relevant legislation. The Role You'll be responsible for the day-to-day management and continuous improvement of the company's Health & Safety function, working across engineering and operational environments. Key responsibilities will include: Managing and developing the company's Health & Safety policies, procedures and systems Ensuring compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and industry standards Carrying out risk assessments, audits, inspections and investigations Identifying areas for improvement and implementing practical H&S initiatives Working closely with engineering, production and operational teams to promote a strong safety culture Investigating incidents, near misses and accidents, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented Delivering or coordinating Health & Safety training and toolbox talks Monitoring H&S performance and producing relevant reports and recommendations Supporting the business with environmental and compliance requirements where required About You We're looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional who has worked within an engineering, manufacturing or similarly technical environment. You'll ideally have: Previous experience in a Health & Safety Manager, H&S Advisor or similar role Experience working within engineering, manufacturing or industrial environments Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice Experience conducting risk assessments, audits and incident investigations A practical, hands-on approach to Health & Safety The ability to build strong relationships with people across all levels of a business NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent H&S qualification Excellent communication and organisational skills This would suit someone who enjoys being visible and hands-on within an engineering environment, rather than purely managing H&S from a desk.
