An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Multi-Skilled Machine Tool Fitter to join a well-established precision machine tool manufacturer in Coventry. The role involves building and assembling complex, high-precision machine tools, with responsibilities covering mechanical fitting, hydraulics, pneumatics, machine wiring and general toolroom work. Some customer visits and overseas travel will also be required.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building and assembling complex machine tools from engineering and assembly drawings.
- Installing, maintaining and repairing mechanical systems and components.
- Precision fitting of bearings and assembling components to tight tolerances.
- Hand scraping mating faces to achieve the correct alignment and fit.
- Completing drilling, tapping and general sub-assembly work.
- Installing, testing and calibrating pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Fitting machine pipework, cabling, switches, sensors and motors.
- Completing sheet metal cutting and general fitting tasks.
- Using toolroom machinery, including lathes, mills and grinders.
- Operating lifting equipment, including overhead cranes and slings.
- Carrying out customer service visits when required.
The successful candidate will have:
- Ideally, at least four years' experience in machine tool building or complex mechanical assembly.
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience working to tight tolerances within a precision engineering environment.
- Strong mechanical fitting and assembly skills.
- Good problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and a quality-focused approach.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good time-management skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- A full driving licence.
- A forklift licence would be desirable but is not essential.
