Field Engineer Location: Somerset Salary: £30k - £35k DOE Permanent | Full-Time

Optima is recruiting on behalf of a leading broadband provider that is transforming connectivity across England and Wales.

Using the latest fibre and wireless technology, our client delivers ultrafast broadband to communities that have traditionally been overlooked by major providers.

As their network continues to expand, they are looking for experienced and motivated Field Engineers to join their growing team.

The Role

As a Field Engineer, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining and troubleshooting Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), Gigabit Wireless Access (GWA) and Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) networks across residential and commercial properties.

This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days are the same.

You'll work independently in the field while also collaborating with technical support teams to ensure customers receive a first-class service.

Key Responsibilities Network Installation & Maintenance Install, configure and maintain FWA, GWA and FTTP network infrastructure.

Install network equipment on streetlights, residential homes and commercial properties.

Install and align Point-to-Point (P2P) wireless links.

Install CAT5 cabling, wireless radio equipment, routers and switches.

Carry out site surveys and Line of Sight (LOS) assessments.

Perform network testing and diagnostics to identify and resolve faults.

Upgrade and expand network infrastructure to improve performance and reliability.

Carry out preventative maintenance to minimise service interruptions.

Fault Finding & Technical Support Diagnose and repair network faults and service outages.

Participate in an on-call rota to provide emergency support.

Work closely with internal technical teams to resolve more complex issues.

Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs and equipment replacements.

Customer Installations Complete new customer installations for both wireless and FTTP broadband services.

Ensure every installation is completed to the highest quality standards.

Explain equipment and services clearly to customers.

Deliver an outstanding customer experience on every visit.

Health & Safety Follow all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.

Work safely at height, on rooftops and when operating Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).

Report hazards and safety concerns promptly.

Maintain compliance through ongoing training and best practice.

Essential Skills & Experience Previous experience installing or maintaining FWA, GWA or FTTP networks.

Experience working with wireless radio equipment, CAT5 cabling, routers and switches.

Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

Good understanding of IP networking principles.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively.

Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Experience carrying out Line of Sight (LOS) surveys.

Knowledge of Street Works Regulations and NRSWA.

Experience working at height and using MEWPs.

Telecommunications or networking qualifications.#INDPERM
