About the Company
Our client is a well-established Mechanical & Electrical contractor, operating successfully for over 15 years, based in Southampton. They deliver high-quality mechanical and M&E solutions across the commercial, industrial, and public sectors, with projects spanning the South of the UK. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking to expand their estimating team.
The Role
The Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive mechanical estimates across a diverse range of projects. The role is open to candidates at all levels of experience, from junior to senior estimators, with support and development available depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing mechanical estimates for projects ranging from £20k to £6m
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documents
- Taking off quantities and producing cost plans and tender submissions
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations
- Assessing risk, value engineering opportunities, and commercial viability
- Working closely with project managers and directors during tender stages
- Attending pre-tender and post-tender meetings where required
- Maintaining accurate estimating records and databases
Experience & Skills
- Background in mechanical estimating within the M&E sector
- Experience across commercial, industrial, and/or public sector projects preferred
- Understanding of HVAC, pipework, and mechanical building services
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills
- Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office (desirable)
- Good communication skills and ability to work within a team
All levels of experience will be considered, from junior estimators looking to progress, through to experienced and senior professionals.
