The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of mechanical systems across construction and maintenance projects. The role ensures all mechanical works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and in compliance with UK regulations and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise on-site mechanical installation works including HVAC, pipework, ductwork, and plant systems
- Coordinate daily activities of engineers, technicians, subcontractors, and labour
- Ensure works are delivered in line with drawings, specifications, programme schedules, and quality standards
- Monitor progress against programme, identify delays, and implement mitigation measures
- Prepare progress reports and provide updates in project meetings
- Manage materials, plant, equipment, deliveries, and on-site storage
- Oversee labour allocation and subcontractor performance
- Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, civil, structural, and commissioning teams
- Support testing, commissioning, and handover documentation
- Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation and site standards
- Conduct toolbox talks, site inspections, and enforce safe working practices including PPE
Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in mechanical installation or building services
- Proven experience supervising mechanical teams on construction projects
- Experience working on large commercial developments within the UK
- NVQ Level 3 or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Valid CSCS Card (Supervisor level)
- SMSTS preferred
- Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and mechanical installation standards
- Competent with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
Desirable
- Experience working in live environments (e.g. hospitals, healthcare, operational sites)
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and prioritise effectively
