Role Overview

The Lecturer / Tutor - Carpentry will deliver and develop high-quality teaching across carpentry programmes, supporting learners to achieve their educational and vocational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver carpentry teaching across full-time and part-time programmes
  • Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) following initial assessment
  • Monitor learner progress, achievement, and attendance
  • Assess learner work and provide academic and vocational guidance
  • Contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance, and course improvement
  • Support learner welfare, progression, and retention
  • Act as an assessor in line with awarding body and centre requirements
  • Attend programme, team, and review meetings as required
  • Deliver 1:1 and group tutorials; Maintain up-to-date ILPs; Support assessment boards and course team meetings

Requirements

Essential

  • Relevant carpentry qualification or equivalent, with teaching or training experience
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to achieve FE teaching qualifications
  • Up-to-date carpentry industry knowledge
  • Strong communication, organisation, and learner management skills
  • Commitment to equality, safeguarding, and inclusive practice

Desirable

  • Degree or postgraduate teaching qualification
  • Experience of course or programme management
  • CPD linked to teaching or carpentry practice
