About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced and confident Finance Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day bookkeeping and finance function across the business. You will play an important role in keeping the accounts accurate, organised and fully up to date, while taking responsibility for a wide range of routine finance and compliance activities.
The successful candidate will be confident using Xero, have a strong understanding of VAT and CIS, and ideally have experience working with contractors and businesses operating within the construction sector. A key part of the role will be taking more of the routine finance work away from the external accountant, helping to improve efficiency and potentially reduce accountancy costs. You will also act as the main point of contact with the external accountant where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day bookkeeping across the business
- Confident and accurate use of Xero
- Bank and account reconciliations
- Cash-flow management and forecasting
- Credit control and debtor management
- Paying contractors and suppliers
- Supplier queries and payment runs
- Keeping the accounts organised and fully up to date
- Dealing with HMRC where appropriate
- Taking routine finance work away from the external accountant
- Acting as the main point of contact with the accountant where appropriate
- Preparing clean and organised information for year-end accounts
VAT & CIS Responsibilities
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Managing CIS administration
- Handling domestic reverse charge VAT, particularly in relation to contractor and construction work
- Checking and processing subcontractor payments correctly
- Calculating and applying CIS deductions
- Completing and submitting monthly CIS returns
- Ensuring supplier and contractor invoices are treated correctly for VAT and CIS purposes
- Liaising with HMRC regarding VAT, CIS and other relevant matters
Additional Finance Responsibilities
- Managing expenses and company card reconciliations
- Payroll and pensions, if required
- Producing monthly P&L reports
- Preparing simple management information to provide a clear picture of business performance
- Monitoring cash flow and highlighting any potential issues
- Supporting the wider business with finance-related queries
What We’re Looking For
- Have solid bookkeeping and finance experience
- Be confident using Xero
- Have a good understanding of VAT and CIS
- Ideally have experience with domestic reverse charge VAT
- Understand contractor and subcontractor payments
- Be confident dealing with HMRC
- Have excellent attention to detail
- Be highly organised and able to keep financial records accurate and up to date
- Be comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- Have good communication skills and be confident liaising with suppliers, contractors and external accountants
- Be proactive and able to identify and resolve issues rather than simply process transactions
- Be commercially aware and comfortable producing basic management information
What We Offer
- £33,000–£38,000 salary, depending on experience
- Monday–Friday, 9:00am–4:00pm
- Predominantly remote working
