Job Title: Trainee Occupational Health Advisor

Location: Home based (Sheffield area)

Salary: £36,000pa + benefits (rising to £38,000pa after probation)

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full time. 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Start date: 12 January 2026

Closing date: 12 September or when the application limit has been met

Interviews: First stage w/c 15 September; final stage w/c 29 September

Intake: Part of an intake of 20 nurses.

Role Summary

Optima Health is one of the largest providers of Occupational Health services in the UK. This role offers Trainee OHAs the opportunity to learn and develop within Occupational Health. You will be based from home, travel to client sites within your area to deliver face-to-face clinics when required, and work with appropriate support and training to deliver OH clinics, immunisations, health surveillance, sickness absence and case management, telephonic case reviews, and health and lifestyle advice to employees.

There is access to the Optima GROW course and a mentor. After successful completion of the GROW course, we would support Trainees through their Occupational Health Nursing qualification.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver a range of Occupational Health services to high professional and quality standards, in line with best practice
  • Provide advice on health management and capability for management, individual clients or their representatives
  • Conduct health assessments and surveillance relating to potential workplace health risks and wellbeing promotion
  • Advise on health issues related to the working environment and relevant legislation
  • Provide health education and promote a healthy lifestyle to maximise participation at work and elsewhere
  • Balance professionalism, objectivity, care, and business awareness to meet changing customer needs
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, sharing knowledge and supporting peers
  • Maintain registration and CPD to meet NMC standards
  • Support and contribute to research and regular clinical supervision for evidence-based practice
  • Ensure confidentiality and secure storage of occupational health records
  • Coordinate access to allied services where appropriate
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are maintained and stored properly

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge Required for the Role

  • Registered Adult Nurse (RGN) on Part 1 of the NMC Register or Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) on Part 2
  • Post-registration nursing experience in:
  • Occupational Health
  • Practice Nursing
  • Community Nursing
  • Functional Assessor
  • Disability Analyst
  • Or a similar field
  • Registration and CPD maintained per PREP standards (NMC)
  • Full Driving Licence and access to own vehicle
  • IT literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel within the region
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and people management awareness
  • Ability to contribute to KPI achievement and work autonomously
  • Experience of reacting to and implementing change
  • Confidence to communicate with defined customers and maintain positive relationships
  • Good judgement and ability to escalate issues appropriately
