Hours: Part time – 3 days per week 9am-5pm/0830pm-1630pm

Right to live and work in the UK is required for this role. The successful applicant will also have to undergo high security vetting prior to starting the role.

Role Summary

We are looking to recruit an EMDR Therapist to provide a confidential counselling and psychotherapy service to staff within the context of a multi-specialist occupational health team. You must be accredited and able to provide Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Integrative Counselling and Trauma Focused CBT. This position is working specifically on the Metropolitan Police contract, supporting a unique and rewarding client group within a structured and well-supported environment.

You will deliver therapeutic interventions to Metropolitan Police staff, working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes EMDR therapists, accredited counsellors, Occupational Health Advisors and screening nurses, ensuring a holistic approach to care. Travel will be at either Sidcup or Lambeth office to ensure services can be delivered to all MPS staff members, your rota is completed in advance with detail of site location. There may be a possibility of remote working once per week but this is dependent on the F2F needs.

We have designed the role to provide a manageable and sustainable clinical workload. Sessions are 90 minutes in length, with an expectation of 4–5 client contacts per day. Dedicated administrative support is provided, with assigned admin staff managing diaries and the majority of coordination tasks. Support and professional development are embedded within the role. Regular clinical supervision is provided within working hours, including both individual and group sessions. Opportunity to work within an experienced MDT, offering peer support and shared expertise in complex cases.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Short-term EMDR therapy for clients with work related issues, who are off sick or at work, up to 12 sessions, with a goal of returning staff back to recuperative/full duties
  • Short-term Trauma Focused CBT for clients, up to 12 sessions
  • Short-Term Integrative Counselling for clients, up to 6 sessions
  • Reports as needed regarding the progress of clients
  • Advice to other members of the multidisciplinary team on the use of EMDR and Trauma Focused counselling
  • Advice to managers within the MPS regarding clinical issues related to EMDR
  • Provision of short term counselling to MPS clients

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge Required for the Role

  • Minimum of Level 3 EMDR training (accredited training as required by the UK EMDR Association) and hold accreditation with the UK EMDR Association
  • Minimum of 2 years EMDR experience within an organisation
  • Minimum of either having one of the following; HCPC Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist, BACP Accreditation, UKCP Registration, BABCP Accreditation, NCS Accredited Professional Registrant (or equivalent)
  • Having experience with working with trauma
  • Previous experience working in large organisations within the public sector
  • Experience in short term therapy within an organisational setting.
