Opticore IT are currently searching for 2x Platform Engineers who are strong in Python and able to become SC Cleared to join the team. You will join our growing team, based in the Reading area, on an initial 6-Month contract, Inside IR35, with scope to extend.
Opticore IT is a specialist Network & Platform Engineering consultancy offering a wide variety of opportunities to work within fast-paced, challenging environments across our client base spanning multiple sectors including Finance, Broadcast Media, Telecommunications and more.
This project replaces a legacy, unsupported automation environment with a modern DevOps platform, consolidating fragmented scripts and data into a scalable, supportable solution. The current setup, built over 10–15 years, is complex, duplicated, and lacks clear ownership, requiring a full assessment, removal of redundant functionality, and refactoring into modern tooling and practices. The goal is to improve maintainability, establish ownership, and enable full operational support.
What you will be doing:
- Design and build the target automation framework aligned to the new DevOps platform
- Assess existing scripts and functionality, removing redundant components
- Refactor and migrate critical scripts into scalable, maintainable microservices
- Lead the migration of core automation workloads from legacy systems
- Establish best practices for modern development, tooling, and platform usage
- Provide knowledge transfer and handover to community developers for ongoing support
- Collaborate with internal engineers and wider delivery team to ensure progress and alignment
- Support project delivery timelines, accelerating completion through additional engineering capacity
What you will bring:
- Very strong Python language coding skills
- Understanding of the DevOps Lifecycle (CI/CD, Testing, Config Management)
- Comfortable working as part of a team to commit code and follow GIT flow/branching strategies
- History working within agile delivery vehicles and awareness of all major ceremonies and products within such a vehicle
- Knowledge of strong security principles and implementations
- Eligibility for SC clearance
