We are seeking an experienced and Accredited Clinical Coder to join our Data Quality team. This is a key role supporting the accuracy, completeness and integrity of clinical coding across our healthcare services. The successful candidate will be responsible for translating clinical information into nationally recognised clinical coding classifications, ensuring compliance with NHS standards and supporting accurate reporting, reimbursement, audit and service improvement activities.
Working closely with clinicians, operational teams, governance leads and commissioners, you will play an important role in driving coding quality, identifying learning opportunities and supporting continuous improvement across the organisation. Working within our Data quality team, your day-to-day responsibilities may vary; however, a typical day will involve the following duties:
- Reviewing patient records and clinical documentation to assign accurate clinical codes
- Applying ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications in accordance with national coding standards
- Ensuring coding is completed accurately, consistently and within required timescales
- Undertaking coding validation and quality assurance activities
- Supporting internal and external clinical coding audits
- Identifying coding discrepancies and working with clinicians to improve documentation standards
- Providing coding advice and guidance to clinical and operational colleagues
- Producing reports and analysis to support data quality and service performance monitoring
- Supporting the development of coding policies, procedures and training materials
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of national clinical coding standards, guidance and best practice
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives relating to coding, data quality and clinical governance
The successful candidate will:
- Hold the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
- Have proven experience working as a Clinical Coder within an NHS or independent healthcare setting
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications
- Possess a strong understanding of NHS Data Standards and Clinical Coding Standards
- Have excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Be able to interpret complex clinical information accurately
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Be confident engaging with clinicians and senior stakeholders
- Be highly organised and able to manage competing priorities effectively
- Be self-motivated and capable of working independently and as part of a wider team
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development and coding excellence
