OpTek Systems is a global supplier of laser processing tools and sub-contract laser machining services.
Role Purpose: Conduct, oversee and coordinate all build and wiring of complex special purpose machines incorporating mechanical and electrical components and lasers.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and conduct daily build operations, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
- Coordinate resources, materials, and personnel to meet project timelines.
- Wire special purpose machinery following electrical schematics.
- Mechanically assemble special purpose machinery with reference to 3D CAD models.
- Install and route pneumatic piping and electrical cables through machinery in accordance with best practice.
- Provide technical guidance and support to build team during complex builds.
- Electrically test machines following build.
- Monitor the build area ensuring it is tidy, efficiently organised and adheres to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of build progress, issues, and resolutions to enable requests for concessions and ENCs from the design team to resolve build-related challenges.
- Collaborate with other relevant departments to resolve all build-related challenges.
- Work with the operations and engineering teams to ensure parts and drawings are available on the shop floor when needed. This will also involve monitoring build consumable stock levels.
- Ability to use workshop machines to modify components would be an advantage.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of work instructions, SOPs and build guidelines.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimise build processes and reduce waste.
- Lead, train and mentor team members to enhance skills and performance ensuring standards, efficiency and deadlines are met.
- Rectifications to systems in commissioning and in house use.
- Occasional travel to international locations to install, maintain, or repair laser systems.
- Additionally, the role may involve other duties and responsibilities as appropriate for the position.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical/electrical assembly processes and build practices.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in using build documentation and systems.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Education and Experience
- Qualification in Electrical Engineering such as HNC/HND.
- Desirable to have at least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role.
- Significant experience of panel building and wiring.
- Experience of mechanical assembly of machinery.
- Ability to understand technical drawings, both electrical and mechanical.
- Knowledge of electrical test equipment.
