Optegra has an exciting opportunity for a Rapid Response Healthcare Technician to join our highly skilled and dedicated regional clinical team. The role is full‑time, permanent and supports four hospitals across the region: Birmingham, Uttoxeter, Nottingham, and Leicester. It requires a high level of flexibility and responsiveness, with travel required on very short notice, either the evening before or on the morning of the shift. As part of the Rapid Response Team, you will not be allocated a fixed rota. Instead, you will provide vital support across the region, helping teams manage staffing shortages and maintain exceptional patient care standards where support is needed most.

The Role:
As part of a multi‑disciplinary team, and in alignment with Optegra values, you will ensure a comprehensive level of care provision to all ophthalmic patients, their relatives, or carers, across clinical and non‑clinical care pathways, with an emphasis on quality patient care across all hospitals within the region. You will work alongside other clinical team members and optometrists for outpatient consultations and pre‑assessment of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the delivery of high‑quality patient care throughout the patient visit.
- Perform diagnostic testing on patients, including biometry, OCT, A‑scan, visual fields, Pentacam, VA, IOP, and topography.
- Support patients on surgery days, providing pre‑ and post‑operative care and ensuring effective communication.
- Demonstrate empathy and sensitivity when addressing patients’ and their relatives’ concerns, ensuring a person‑centred approach.
- Provide basic health promotion advice related to ophthalmic surgery.
- Assist in the operating theatre, supporting the entire patient pathway.
- Maintain infection control by adhering to the Hospital’s Uniform Policy, keeping a clean working environment, and following decontamination and sterilisation procedures in line with the IPC policy.
- Follow protocols for documenting and reporting accidents or incidents.
Requirements:
- NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent.
- Experience working in a healthcare environment or ophthalmic sector.
- Basic Life Support competent.
- Highly organised, with clear forward planning and ability to flex according to patients’ needs.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
