Business Development Representative (New Business)

Optec | Cardiff (Hybrid) | Full-time | £25,000-£32,000 Base (Dependent on Experience) + Uncapped Commission

About Us

Optec are a Cardiff-based cyber security and network engineering company, and the only Fortinet Expert Partner in Wales.

We design, build and manage Fortinet infrastructure, firewalls, SD-WAN and SASE for organisations that need networks they can actually trust.

We've also partnered with Cynet to add round the clock endpoint detection and response on top of the infrastructure we engineer.

We\'re not a generalist MSSP bolting on a bit of everything.

We specialise in Fortinet, and that focus is exactly what makes us different from the bigger, broader players in the market.

We\'re also a growing business.

That means you\'ll be joining a close-knit team where your ideas are listened to, your development is taken seriously and you\'ll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact rather than becoming another number in a large sales organisation.

The Role

We\'re hiring our first Business Development Representative to build a proper outbound engine from the ground up.

This isn\'t a role where you\'re handed a script and a phone list on day one and left to work it out.

You\'ll join a structured onboarding programme built specifically for this role, with a clear path through your first twelve weeks so you know exactly what you\'re doing and why from day one.

You\'ll be responsible for generating new business through cold outreach, Linked In, email and phone, creating qualified opportunities for our Account Managers and helping establish a repeatable outbound sales process that will grow alongside the business.

Unlike joining an established sales development team, you\'ll have the opportunity to shape how outbound is done at Optec.

Your feedback, ideas and successes will directly influence how we build the function as we continue to grow.

As your knowledge and confidence develop, you\'ll learn enough about cyber security and networking to hold genuine conversations with IT Managers, Heads of IT and Directors of Resources, not simply read from a script.

  • What You\'ll Be Doing
  • Running structured outbound prospecting campaigns across cold calling, Linked In and email
  • Booking qualified meetings for the Account Management team
  • Learning the Fortinet and Cynet portfolio well enough to speak confidently with prospects
  • Building and refining a repeatable outbound pipeline, not simply working through lists
  • Maintaining accurate CRM data so the pipeline can be measured and trusted
  • Working closely with marketing and account management to improve outreach and messaging
  • What We\'re Looking For

We\'re far more interested in attitude than a perfect CV.

Whether you\'ve already worked in sales or business development, or you\'re looking to begin your career in technology sales, we\'ll provide the training and coaching.

What matters most is that you\'re motivated, resilient and genuinely coachable.

You\'ll probably do well here if you

  • Enjoy speaking with people and aren\'t afraid to pick up the phone
  • Handle rejection without letting it affect your motivation
  • Want to continuously improve and see feedback as an opportunity to get better
  • Can listen well and ask thoughtful questions
  • Stay organised and enjoy following a structured process
  • Want to build a long-term career in sales rather than simply finding your next job

You don\'t need cyber security experience. We\'ll teach you that part.

  • What You\'ll Get
  • Base salary of £25,000-£32,000, dependent on experience, plus uncapped commission once qualifying KPIs are hit, earned on every deal you\'ve touched that closes
  • A structured twelve-week onboarding programme designed specifically for this role
  • Ongoing coaching from experienced sales and technical professionals
  • Hybrid working from our Cardiff office
  • Clear progression into Account Management, Business Development and future leadership opportunities as the team grows
  • Fortinet and cyber security training to develop your technical knowledge
  • Company pension
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • A genuine opportunity to help build a new function within Wales\'s only Fortinet Expert Partner

Why Join Optec?

Sales is about more than targets.

We want to build a team of people who are curious, ambitious and proud of the work they do.

You\'ll be trusted to contribute ideas, supported when things don\'t go to plan and recognised when you succeed.

If you\'re looking for somewhere to learn, develop and build a long-term career in cyber security sales, you\'ll find plenty of opportunity here.
