Optalis is the adult social care delivery partner on behalf of Wokingham Borough Council and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Council. Optalis is owned and funded by the 2 Councils. Optalis is not a private provider or an employment agency.

This nursing care home is located within a very easy walking distance from the Town Centre of Wokingham. This home provides nursing care for up to 50 older people who require the support of a secure environment and a higher level of care from our staff members.

Primary Purpose of Role

To provide physical and social care for residents whilst promoting the company policy of independence, choice, rights, fulfilment, privacy, dignity and equal opportunity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

We are looking for our Healthcare Assistants to be caring and compassionate. You could work with residents who have significant care needs, so it’s important that they are made to feel safe and comfortable. HCA staff are the first face of Optalis and must be observant and have excellent communication skills when dealing with residents and their colleagues. To be calm under pressure and flexible enough to deal with a variety of tasks and a quickly changing schedule.

  • Communicating effectively and respectfully with patients and those important to them, sometimes in difficult circumstances.
  • Accurately recording observations in accordance with the resident’s conditions, informing the Nurse on duty of any changes and responding accordingly.
  • Some of the routines you may be assisting the Nurse with are below:
  • Checking blood sugar levels
  • Change simple dressings
  • PEG feeding
  • Medication administration
  • Basic Observations
  • Catheter care
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Monitoring and responding to ventilation care
  • Administering nebulisers
  • Oral and tracheal suction care
  • Pressure area and skin care
  • Support clients' communication needs
  • Supporting client with full personal care needs

Always ensuring residents retain their dignity and individuality. All holistic assessments are carried out as per the individual residents' requirements and will cover nutritional and incontinence issues, risk assessment etc. Previous experience within a nursing home environment and experience/exposure to some or all of the routines above would be a great asset to this position.
