This role supports and improves areas such as Health and Safety, Technical, Quality, Training and Continuous Improvement. This role ensures the communication and flow of good, accurate information, instruction, and guidance between different shifts, with Shift Managers and with the Technical and Engineering functions.
Essential Functions Performed by the Position:
- Maintains and, wherever possible, continuously improves operational performance and standards of quality, housekeeping and health and safety.
- Understands and follows the Production Schedule in order that jobs are produced in the required sequence.
- Ensures the quality of all work produced being sent to either the next process or the final customer.
- Participates in training as and when required to maintain and improve the range of skills and knowledge required to meet the ongoing needs of the business.
- Ensures that safe and healthy practices within the area covered by the job holder are followed and that all aspects of company, site and legal occupational health and safety requirements are met.
- Oversees the implementation and update of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), approved quality standards and job specification documents within the Cell.
- Conducts Health and Safety, Hygiene and 5S Audits in their own and other Cells.
- Serves as Fire Marshall within the Cell.
- Serves as Chief Fire Marshall (Conducts Role Call) when required.
- Trains as a First Aider when the requirement arises.
- Actively promotes and drives improvement ideas from Production Operatives within the Cell, evaluate the ideas then turning these ideas into appropriate actions.
- Assists Production Manager with Customer Complaint and NCR investigations.
- Communicates and implements any resulting Preventative actions within the Cell.
- Assists in Risk assessments when being conducted within the Cell.
- Supports the activities of the technical department including trial preparation/planning, Cell specific activities (e.g. backing roller replacement, consumable replacement).
- Assists in the implementation and upkeep of the new COSHH system.
- Takes an active role in understanding the Planning Schedule and feeding back improvements/suggestions that could be made.
- Deputises for Production Manager when required.
Position Qualifications:
Education: GCSE or equivalent grade C or above in Math, English and one science subject.
Experience: Three years’ experience within a manufacturing environment is essential. Experience of making label and foil type products using a wide variety of machinery including print, emboss, die‑cutting and slitting to extremely tight tolerances and very demanding quality standards. Must have first‑hand experience in at least one area of the Cell and be willing to further their knowledge of all other areas within the Cell.
Certifications / Licenses Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic IT skills required to gain access to Machine and Job Specifications.
- Capable of producing work to a very high level of quality to tight deadlines.
- Flexibility to accommodate a rotating shift pattern, which could include a continental shift pattern.
- Open minded approach and willingness to both create suggestions for improvement and undertake ideas from others.
- Possess the ability and confidence to decide on quality of own work, using known standards.
- Must be willing and able to take on new skills and responsibilities once the requisite training has been completed e.g., Fire Marshall, 1st Aid, SOP preparation.
- Open minded approach and ability to own and promote Continuous Improvement ideas within the Cell.
Physical Characteristics and Demands:
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination for operating tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Stamina and endurance to perform repetitive tasks throughout the day.
