Empowering Youth Voices for a Better Tomorrow

The ChallengeUS Future Leaders Competition is open for Summer 2025. This global competition invites students to engage with civic challenges and share their bold ideas for a better future. The goal is to find, highlight, and reward promising young leaders through scholarship prizes, publication, and public recognition. This summer’s prompt asks students to envision what they hope their country will accomplish by the year 2050, and outline the steps needed to achieve that vision.

What’s New This Year

This cycle, there will be one overall First Place Winner selected from all submissions instead of one winner per category. Three “Best in Class” Honorable Mentions will also be chosen—one for each submission category (Creative Writing, Analytical Writing, and Speech).

First Place Winner receives:

  • $500 USD
  • Publication of their submission
  • Biographical feature article
  • Certificate of Special Achievement

Honorable Mentions receive:

  • Publication of their submission
  • Biographical feature articles
  • Certificate of Achievement

All participants gain access to the ChallengeUS Future Leaders Network, a global community of young changemakers.

Eligibility

  • Open to any student currently enrolled in an accredited high school or undergraduate college or university, anywhere in the world
  • Students on academic gap years or semesters are also eligible
  • Homeschooled students are eligible
  • Submissions must be in English
  • Previous participants may enter again, except for past First Place winners
  • Use of AI or plagiarism is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification

Submission Guidelines

Creative Writing

  • Word Limit: 1,250 words
  • PDF format, Times New Roman or Arial, size 11 or 12
  • May include personal narratives, reflections, stories, poems, written speeches, memoirs, or essays
  • Focus on originality, personal voice, depth, and storytelling

Analytical Writing

  • Word Limit: 1,250 words
  • PDF format, Times New Roman or Arial, size 11 or 12
  • Any citation style accepted (citations do not count toward word limit)
  • May include argumentative essays, research papers, literature reviews, or case studies
  • Focus on logical reasoning, evidence, structure, and insight

Speech

  • Maximum Length: 10 minutes
  • MP4 video format
  • High audio and video quality required
  • Visual aids are allowed but clear, confident speaking is the priority

Entering Multiple Categories

Participants are encouraged to submit entries to multiple categories to increase their chances of winning. However, winners will only receive one prize across all categories.

Evaluation

Submissions are evaluated for:

  • Quality of communication: clarity, structure, grammar, and flow
  • Originality and depth: unique perspectives and insightful ideas

  • When will results be announced? Results will be posted by the end of September 2025. We are unable to provide individual status updates or feedback due to high submission volume.
  • Can I submit to multiple categories? Yes. However, each winner will be awarded for only one category.
  • I participated before. Can I enter again? Yes, unless you previously won First Place.
  • How do I resubmit my work? Simply submit your updated entry through the same form before the deadline. Your latest submission will be used.
  • I missed the deadline. Can I get an extension? No extensions are granted to maintain fairness.
