The Training & Development Team are launching a 6-week Geospatial Skills Academy, giving young people aged 16+ the chance to explore the fast-growing world of geospatial technology, digital mapping and reality capture. This hands-on programme includes an introduction to practical skills needed by employers across a number of sectors:
- Digital mapping and GPS
- Drones and field data collection
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Coding for mapping and analysis
- 3D modelling and spatial design
Participants will also take part in employability sessions to develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Throughout the academy, young people will engage with a range of local partners across sectors including housing, digital innovation, environmental conservation, and outdoor education. This will give participants insight into how geospatial skills are used in real-world settings — from planning green spaces to supporting sustainable communities.
The programme also opens potential progression to Fife College course in geospatial or STEM subjects, supporting long-term career development in areas such as construction, engineering, planning, and environmental science.
Desirable criteria: As long as you are 16+, unemployed and have a willingness to learn and develop then you’re all set!
