7. Senior Research Fellow/ Research Fellow in Statistical MethodsOpportunity Details# Senior Research Fellow/ Research Fellow in Statistical Methods## Project DescriptionOver the past 30 years, the Department of Imaging Neuroscience, home to the internationally renowned Functional Imaging Laboratory (FIL), has pioneered the development and application of imaging techniques to advance our understanding of the human brain. It continues to play a leading role in progressing and transforming research in many areas of neuroscience. The Department hosts multiple large-scale collaborative grants including the Wellcome-funded Discovery Research Platform for Naturalistic Neuroimaging, and the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research.### About the roleWe are seeking a highly motivated individual to join Professor Zeidman's team at the Functional Imaging Laboratory (FIL) in the Department of Imaging Neuroscience. You will be based in the Neurovascular Modelling Group, which is part of the wider Methods Group who develop the Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) software package. You will also work closely with Professor John Ashburner, who leads the Computational Anatomy team and invented many of the image processing techniques used in neuroimaging research today. You will create tools for multivariate analysis of neuroimaging data (e.g. anatomical MRI, fMRI, M/EEG, OPMs), make these available to the community via SPM and conduct a mathematical review of existing multivariate analysis techniques. It is a unique opportunity to gain extensive, hands-on training at the forefront of human neuroimaging, working within a collaborative environment dedicated to gaining new insights into the workings of the brain. The post is available from 4January 2027 and is funded by the Wellcome Discovery Research Platform for Naturalistic Neuroimaging to 3 January 2029 in the first instance. If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team (ion.hradmin@ucl.ac.uk).For informal enquiries about the role please contact Professor Peter Zeidman (email: peter.zeidman@ucl.ac.uk).For a full job description please visit UCL's online recruitment portal and search using vacancy reference B02-11524. Please do not upload any additional attachments as these will not be considered by the selection panel.### About youYou will have a PhD in mathematics, statistics or imaging methods and experience with developing Bayesian statistical models or methods. The ability to derive update equations for Variational Bayes model fitting, evidence of independent and creative work in mathematical modelling and strong programming skills are essential. Experience working with imaging data, multivariate statistics and Matlab is desirable.A well-established track record of impactful publications, and experience of managing staff is essential for appointment as a Senior Research Fellow. This role meets the eligibility requirements for a or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Point 7 GBP 23,224, point 30 GBP 39,560, point 51 GBP 72,997. Excludes London allowance and discretionary points; each university maps its own grades onto the spine. Most UK universities place staff on the national single pay spine, a 51-point salary scale negotiated nationally for higher education. Each university then defines its own grades as ranges of spine points. That is why a Grade 7 research post can pay one range at one university and a noticeably different range at another, and why Oxford, Cambridge and a few others use their own grade names.Within a grade you normally move up one spine point a year until the top of the grade's standard range. Many universities also have discretionary points above that range, reached only through a contribution review rather than automatically. The figure in an advert is therefore the range for that university's grade, usually as gross annual pay for a full-time post. Your starting point within it depends on experience, and is worth asking about before you accept an offer.SourceCountry: GBStatus: VerifiedExplicify detected context in this offer that relates to a known reference. Always confirm the details on the official source before applying.Always confirm contract terms in the official source. Some posts are advertised at two or three grades at once, typically \"Lecturer or Senior Lecturer\", or a research post that \"may be appointed at Grade 6\" if the successful candidate has not yet completed a doctorate. The salary shown for such a post is usually the lowest band, or the whole span from the bottom of the lowest grade to the top of the highest. The grade decides more than the starting salary: it sets the ceiling you can progress to without a promotion, and often the expectations attached to the role. A candidate appointed at the lower grade normally moves up only through a later regrading or promotion process. If you are applying for a multi-grade post, address the criteria of the higher grade explicitly in your application, and ask before accepting an offer which grade and which point on its scale it assumes.Senior Research Fellow/ Research Fellow in Statistical MethodsUniversity College London## Your cookie preferencesNecessaryAlways onRequired for the website to function.
