Point 7 GBP 23,224, point 30 GBP 39,560, point 51 GBP 72,997. Excludes London allowance and discretionary points; each university maps its own grades onto the spine. Most UK universities place staff on the national single pay spine, a 51-point salary scale negotiated nationally for higher education. Each university then defines its own grades as ranges of spine points. That is why a Grade 7 research post can pay one range at one university and a noticeably different range at another, and why Oxford, Cambridge and a few others use their own grade names.Within a grade you normally move up one spine point a year until the top of the grade's standard range. Many universities also have discretionary points above that range, reached only through a contribution review rather than automatically. The figure in an advert is therefore the range for that university's grade, usually as gross annual pay for a full-time post. Your starting point within it depends on experience, and is worth asking about before you accept an offer.SourceCountry: GBStatus: VerifiedExplicify detected context in this offer that relates to a known reference. Always confirm the details on the official source before applying.Always confirm contract terms in the official source.\"Pro rata\" means the salary is stated for a full-time post and is scaled to the hours actually worked. A post at 0.6 FTE (full-time equivalent) pays 60% of the advertised figure, and the same applies to allowances such as a London weighting that are themselves pro rata. Some adverts state the full-time range and the part-time figure side by side; many give only the full-time figure. Check the FTE or the weekly hours in the advert and do the multiplication, because the full-time number can be considerably higher than what you will actually receive.Pension contributions, annual leave and most benefits are normally pro rata as well. Fixed allowances, by contrast, are sometimes paid in full, so it is worth asking the employer how each element is treated.Research Fellow - Generation New Era: StoriesUniversity College LondonDepartment of Education and Social Justice## Your cookie preferencesNecessaryAlways onRequired for the website to function.
