This school is looking for a strong, dedicated and passionate SEND teaching assistant to join their hardworking team. The ideal candidate will have a background in supporting learning with a focus on SEND. Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support to a student with complex needs, including those who display aggressive behaviours or require assistance with personal care and hygiene.
- Assist teachers in implementing individualised education plans (IEPs) and behavioural strategies tailored to the student's specific needs.
- Foster a nurturing and structured learning environment to help the student develop emotional regulation and positive social skills.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists to monitor progress and adjust support strategies as needed.
- Act as a role model, demonstrating patience, empathy, and understanding while building a trusting relationship with the student.
- Manage challenging behaviours using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement strategies.
- Support the student in accessing the curriculum and engaging in classroom activities.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children who have complex needs, including challenging behaviours and autism, is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with the student, teachers, and parents.
- A calm and resilient approach to managing aggressive or disruptive behaviours.
- Ability to assist with personal care tasks, including supporting the student with self-care and hygiene routines.
- A passion for supporting children with additional needs and fostering an inclusive environment.
- Relevant qualifications in education, SEN, or child development would be advantageous but are not essential.
