At Ophelos, we believe in a different way to deal with debt. One that puts empathy and understanding front and centre, approaching our customers as individuals — no matter what they’re going through. For too long, people in debt have borne the brunt of poor industry practices. Intimidating tactics, time-consuming customer service and a one-size-fits-all approach that overlooks the reasons anyone can fall into debt in the first place. Meanwhile, businesses suffer too. Poor customer experience translates to poor customer satisfaction, high churn rates, bad brand reputation and ultimately missed opportunities. That’s why we’re taking a radically different approach. Pioneering an industry-first AI-native collections platform, we build products that help individuals clear their debts in a way that suits them, whilst providing businesses with an improved customer experience and game-changing insights into their customer base.

Since our launch in 2021, we’ve worked with some of the UK’s leading companies, including Octopus, Scottish Power and Philips — helping millions of people move toward a more stable, debt-free future. In 2023, we were acquired by Intrum, Europe’s biggest credit management service and have begun the next phase in our growth — expansion into 17 European markets over the next two years.

As a Platform Engineer at Ophelos, you will craft and maintain the technology backbone that drives our mission to revolutionise debt management. Your expertise in development and operations (DevOps) will be key in building a platform that empowers financial health for consumers and businesses, aligning with our vision of a financially educated and equal world.

  • 40% Collaborating with the tech team to streamline deployment process and improving our developer experience
  • 30% Developing and enhancing our DevOps practices, ensuring our platform’s reliability and scalability
  • 30% Proactive systems monitoring, issue resolution and continuous improvement initiatives to optimise the platform’s security and performance

Success will be measured by reduced deployment times, systems stability (observing uptime and error rates), and positive feedback from the teams.

Our infrastructure is primarily on containerised services, using AWS EKS, RDS, ElastiCache, and Kinesis serving up a Ruby on Rails application and orchestration our AI and data pipelines on Databricks.

Build a sustainable platform with a focus on security and scalability. Own infrastructure and security projects, ensuring our platform is running smoothly, creating highly available and highly resilient systems. Lead our Security, Infrastructure and Performance initiatives. Mentor less experienced members of the team as we grow.

We believe that no one is the finished article, however, some experience in the following is important for this role:

  • Must haves
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes (K8s) and containerisation (Docker)
  • Good understanding of GitOps practices
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Proficiency in implementing deployment pipelines (CI/CD, GitHub Actions)
  • Familiarity with AWS-based infrastructure
  • Good understanding of networking/dns concepts (OSI layers)
  • Nice to haves
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Datadog)
  • Experience deploying, monitoring, and supporting cloud infrastructure for Ruby on Rails applications
  • Experience with Cloudflare
