We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Sexual Health Healthcare Assistant to join our team at the Oldham Integrated Care Sexual Health Service. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality sexual health services to our diverse patient population. Your responsibilities will include conducting non-invasive clinical tasks, such as taking patient histories, processing samples, and offering valuable information and advice on sexual health matters. You will also be instrumental in maintaining patient confidentiality, ensuring a safe and respectful environment, and helping patients access appropriate care and treatment. This is a 15-hour post based at Oldham Integrated Care Sexual Health Service. There may be a requirement to provide cover at other service sites. The role involves travelling to various locations across the service, therefore access to transport is essential. You will be expected to work flexibly to cover clinic opening hours, which may range between 8:00am and 7:00pm, with occasional shifts up to 8:00pm at spoke or peripheral clinics.

Main Responsibilities

  • Follow all policies and protocols pertaining to the role, reporting any concerns or issues to lead nurses/administration manager.
  • Provide first point of contact to patients assessed as requiring asymptomatic screening management.
  • Undertake necessary tests including phlebotomy, urinalysis and instruction to patients regarding self-testing for STI’s and long-term conditions such as HIV (where required).
  • Be willing to undergo further training that will enhance service delivery and improve outcomes for patients.
  • Undertake microscopy following approved training to support the management of clinical symptoms and report findings to the clinician responsible for care.
  • Assist with the correct collection and recording of specimens.
  • Offer advice and education to patients regarding safe sex practices and offer information regarding further help and advice.
  • Perform condom demonstration to clients and understand the importance of education.
  • Perform pregnancy testing and urinalysis following instruction from clinical colleagues.
  • Assist clinical staff as necessary, including recording of blood pressure, height, weight and BMI.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Care Certificate (desirable).

Experience & Knowledge

  • Recent experience working in a patient-facing or customer service setting.
  • Previous experience within a sexual health service (desirable).
  • Understanding of confidentiality, privacy, and dignity in care.
  • Awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusive practices.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, particularly with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Able to provide individualized, empathetic care to patients.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workload independently.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high standards of care.

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing service demands, including evenings, weekends, and outreach clinics.

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car for travel between clinic bases and outreach locations.
