The role incorporates both marketing/communications and development functions, allowing for expansive thinking about how we communicate with all those who want to engage with our programmes and projects – audiences, community participants, partners and supporters.

The CCP will take the lead on evolving an original and compelling public identity for OperaUpClose, reflecting and amplifying how we work with our stakeholders and communities both local and nationwide, not as passive recipients, but as collaborators and co-creators who enliven and deepen everything we do.

We’re interested in applications from individuals with specific experience in marketing, fundraising and campaigning, but if you think you could be the right person for this role, we’d love to hear from you, whatever career route you have taken. Brand and awareness

  • Communicate the OperaUpClose brand, informed by our vision, mission and values -maintaining a strong and consistent visual identity and external profile

  • Maintain and build our reputation for outstanding artistic practice in the media (working in collaboration with external agencies where appropriate)

  • Devise and write effective, accurate copy that reflects OperaUpClose’s ethos and brand strategy

  • Develop the company’s knowledge of our audiences, supporters and engagement through data capture and web analytics, using the findings to drive our approach

  • Build strategic partnerships with other organisations and stakeholders to enhance and develop OperaUpClose’s mission and key values

Communications and sales

  • Generate innovative approaches to attracting new audiences to our work

  • Develop and implement creative and data-driven campaign plans for all of our productions, projects and creative engagement activities (working in collaboration with external agencies where appropriate)

  • Build strong and trusted relationships with venues and partner organisations, coordinating marketing campaigns and ensuring high standards in all communications

  • Develop comprehensive marketing packs and materials for distribution to venues and partners

  • Manage reciprocal marketing swaps with other relevant organisations

  • Distribute press stories, working with external PR teams and monitoring the company’s press profile

Content creation:

  • Manage and oversee the creation and sourcing of content for our communications channels, including newsletters, digital channels, social media and the company website, liaising with other staff where required

  • Co-ordinate the creation of production print and digital equivalents including posters, flyers and programmes, ensuring accurate crediting of contributors and funders, and sourcing quotes and commissioning additional written content where appropriate

  • Work with creative teams, external designers and other freelancers (eg photographers) where required to create and develop engaging assets including publicity images, production & rehearsal photography, video content (trailers, vox pops and behind the scenes footage), print artwork, and artwork for digital and print advertising

Development and fundraising

  • Work with the Artistic Director/CEO and wider team to develop and implement compelling campaigns to build paid membership and individual giving schemes

  • Identify and build positive relationships with potential funding sources including corporate sponsors and individual donors.

  • Assist in planning and publicising fundraising events, campaigns and activities to deepen our relationship with our supporters

  • Keep up to date with current individual giving and sponsorship trends and opportunities, integrating these into campaigns where appropriate

  • Administration and general responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain relevant databases including through Mailchimp and Donorfy

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the OperaUpClose’s work by analysing performance and feedback, making suggestions as appropriate and attending training

  • Collect and support the collation of data for key funder reports and quarterly reports to the Board of Trustees and Arts Council England

  • Actively contribute to regular team meetings, business reviews and planning processes; follow up on actions whenever required

  • Contribute to the activities of the organisation in whatever way necessary, to promote the interests of the organisation and achieve its business plan and strategic objectives

  • Assist and support colleagues whenever required, promoting our ethos and a flexible and inclusive work environment

  • Attend performances and events, acting as an advocate and ambassador for the organisation, consistently promoting OperaUpClose

  • Understanding of developing and implementing effective marketing, digital and communication strategies

  • Skills in digital content creation for use across multiple platforms

  • A strategic and creative mindset with excellent problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • The ability to write clear and compelling copy

  • Experience of managing multiple projects and campaigns concurrently to meet deadlines, with a high level of organisational skills

  • The ability and confidence to build positive relationships with a range of external partners, supporters and other stakeholders

  • Familiarity with a range of audience analysis tools and the ability to interpret data to drive audience development

  • A highly motivated, proactive approach

  • A demonstrable passion for the arts

Desirable

  • Experience of working collaboratively as part of a small team

  • Knowledge and understanding of touring theatre models

  • Experience of successfully driving income generation through membership or syndicate schemes

  • Experience of developing and managing budgets

  • Experience of working with venue marketing teams and external agencies
