Job Overview

We are currently working with a fantastic primary school in Finchley that is seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their support team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mentor, youth worker, or SEN professional to make a tangible, positive impact on the lives of primary‑aged children who require targeted social, emotional, and behavioural support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Targeted Intervention: Work on a 1-to-1 and small‑group basis with pupils who display challenging behavior, social‑emotional mental health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, or autism (ASD).
  • Behavior Management: Implement positive behavior support strategies, de‑escalation techniques, and emotional regulation tools to help students stay engaged in their learning.
  • Academic & Pastoral Support: Assist students with accessing classroom activities, focusing on core subjects (Literacy and Numeracy) as well as social communication skills.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and safeguarding leads to monitor student progress, review behavior plans, and share feedback.
  • Building Resilience: Foster a safe, inclusive, and calm learning environment where vulnerable pupils feel understood, supported, and motivated to succeed.

Ideal Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience working as a Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, or Residential Support Worker (experience within a school setting is highly desirable).
  • SEND Knowledge: A strong understanding of or experience supporting children with SEMH, ADHD, and ASD.
  • Approach: A calm, resilient, and empathetic attitude with a natural ability to build strong rapport and trust with disengaged or vulnerable learners.
  • Qualifications: Relevant education degrees, childcare qualifications, or specialized training (such as Team Teach, positive behavior management, or autism awareness) are a strong advantage.

What the School Offers

  • A supportive, welcoming leadership team and dedicated inclusion department.
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • The chance to make a profound difference in a community-focused primary school.

We're proud to be an inclusive employer, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and committed to creating accessible opportunities across education.

As part of our registration process, you'll need an enhanced DBS check and we'll need to see and copy your original qualifications before any placement. Teaching roles require Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
