A highly specialist educational setting is seeking an experienced and committed BSL Level 3 Teaching Assistant to support young learners with complex needs, including significant sensory impairments, SEND, and physical and medical needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for a skilled professional who is passionate about inclusive education and able to provide high-quality support within a multidisciplinary environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with learners who require tailored communication approaches, consistency, patience, and exceptional levels of care and professionalism. The role requires someone who is confident supporting pupils with a wide range of complex needs and who understands the importance of communication, dignity, and promoting independence at every stage of learning and development.
Key Responsibilities- Provide communication support using British Sign Language (BSL Level 3 minimum)
- Support learners with sensory impairments and complex SEND needs across the school day
- Assist with personal care routines in a respectful and professional manner
- Support learners with feeding and mobility needs
- Participate in hydrotherapy and swimming sessions, including entering the swimming pool to support learners safely
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and medical professionals
- Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
- BSL Level 3 qualification (essential)
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with complex SEND needs
- Confidence working with learners with physical, medical, and sensory impairments
- A calm, resilient, and highly professional approach
- Willingness to undertake personal care responsibilities
- Willingness to support learners in swimming and hydrotherapy sessions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable learners to achieve their potential
Full training will be provided for feeding, hoist operation, and other specialist care procedures. However, applicants must be comfortable undertaking these responsibilities as part of the role.
