City Centre Based SEMH Teaching Assistant supporting pupils with Social, Emotional & Mental Health Needs (aged 11-18). We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary-age provision in the heart of the city centre. You will work with pupils aged 11-18 who have EHCPs for Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing consistent, relationship-based support that helps them re-engage with learning and develop emotional resilience.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Use holistic nurture approaches to build trust, confidence and emotional safety.
- Apply positive consequence therapy to help pupils understand behaviour, choices and outcomes.
- De-escalate perceived challenging behaviour.
- Support pupils to regulate emotions, manage transitions and access learning.
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and external professionals.
- Contribute to personalised strategies outlined in each pupil's EHCP.
Qualifications & Attributes:
- Experience supporting young people with SEMH, ASC, trauma, or behavioural needs.
- A calm, empathetic and resilient approach is essential.
- Ability to build strong, consistent relationships with pupils who may struggle with trust and build pupil confidence using holistic nurture and positive consequence approaches.
- A passion for helping young people overcome barriers and thrive.
